.MOBI Domain Name Registrations

More and more people use mobile devices to access online content, so the demand for mobile-friendly websites is constantly increasing. To meet this demand, the organization that administers the generic top-level domain extensions, ICANN, launched the dot MOBI domain name extension in 2005. The first registrations were started in September 2006, and the notion behind this domain name extension is that all websites that use it must comply with certain restrictions. In other words, all .MOBI websites need to be designed to be accessed correctly by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” drawn by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the dot MOBI Registry organization. These involve how a page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), and so on.

The rules have raised some concerns given that the universal top-level domain extension is the only one that specifies what devices has to be able to open a website and the way in which this must happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a website should be built in such a way as to be accessed by the majority of Internet browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Taking into account that the dot MOBI Registry organization does not offer domains directly, you can obtain a .MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours. If you have an already active domain, you can also transfer it to our firm if you acquire its EPP transfer authorization key from your current registrar company.
